My ways of working

My original training was in Humanistic & Integrative Counselling which means I bring into the work whatever modalities and ways of working seem useful and relevant to the individual client. I believe that ‘one size’ does not fit all and I am concerned to work in collaboration with my clients, shaping the work as we progress.  My approach is rooted in the person-centred philosophy and practice of Carl Rogers and I believe we are all driven by a desire for personal change and improvement; to be healed; to become better versions of ourselves and to seek redemption when we feel we have fallen down or find ourselves hurt or unable to cope alone.

My focus is to really listen to your experience and help you to appreciate how what may have happened to you in the past has served to shape your experience and view of yourself, others and your relationships in the present. This can often involve exploring childhood experience and early family dynamics as well as reflecting on existential issues such as notions of personal accountability; identity; self-worth, meaningfulness, the inevitability of death and what it means to you to live a good life.
